The African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) is introducing Art Collector’s Club, a new event which will essentially be an afternoon of discussions around acquiring and curating your own art collection. The first in the series opens in Lagos this weekend, on Saturday, the 27th of May, 2017.
Established in 2007 in Lagos, Nigeria, the African Artists’ Foundation encourages the highest standard of art in Africa and this weekend, at the Art Collector’s Club, the AAF team will share its vast knowledge on the local and international art market, including building an evolving and quality collection – with the input of experts, artists and collectors alike. In summary, if you need insight on defining a context for your collection, the AAF team will be assisiting with that.
The event will be mediated by award-winning Artist Karimah Ashadu, and will feature speakers like Femi Akinsanya, an investment banker, freelance financial advisor and private equity investor whose interest in African art dates back to his childhood in Ibadan, Nigeria where he grew up surrounded by indigenous artworks that played a major role in daily life, culture and religious rituals. Acclaimed photographer, Medina Dugger, will also be a speaker. Get ready to learn a lot as they share perspectives on their methodology and rationale for collecting contemporary art.
To help you launch your very own art collection, there will also be stunning pieces by Nigerian artists on sale during the event.
