AYOOLA, an exhibition of works by visual artist, Ayoola Gbolahan, opens at Rele this weekend, on Sunday, 11th of June, 2017. The exhibition will run for 4 weeks through July 9, 2017
Ayoola Gbolahun, in this very first solo of his 20-year career, presents the exhibition as a tri-partite experience of works bordering around Abstract Landscape, Abstract Figuration, and Human Anthropology. Rele Gallery which currently represents the artist explains that the exhibition is a visceral look from the artist’s point of view into mundane aspects of life and living, though not often brought up but is worthy of being engaged.
According to Rele “Ayoola, having painted for over two decades, has proven over time what it means to incrementally grow as an artist… In conversation with the artist, it is clear that he is informed by the ability of his mind to “catch up to new things”, a delightful indication of movement from the old to the new, from ‘what was’ to ‘what is’… It is indeed our pleasure to be yet another collaborator to this next stop as a means to document growth that is worthy of revealing…”
Some works by Ayoola Gbolahun to be displayed at AYOOLA this weekend
Speaking about his work, Gbolahun says “My work… usually depicts a portrait of my encounter, relationship and experience with the rest of creation- both the tangible and intangible. I am present somewhere in all my works as one who has navigated through these spaces as on-looker. My attempt at filling a canvas also stands as a way of documenting experiences with people and environments. These forms are translated to images in dreams and my dreams are the sketches of my paintings. It has been so since I made my first drawing as a six year old…”
We look forward to experiencing this collection.
