There have always been open letters, but when Journalist, poet and filmmaker Wana “Wanawana” Udobang decides to write one and features one of our fave Poets Titilope Sonuga, it’s over! The mother of open letters has been born!
Wanawana, who has been working on her sophomore poetry album for over a year says “The album will be titled “In memory of forgetting” [because]when I started recording a lot of the poems, I realized they were all snapshots of memories I had been suppressing for quite sometime. In this work I will be navigating trauma, loss and self renewal…”
While ‘In memory of forgetting” bakes nicely in the oven, Wanawana has decided to share one piece ‘Open Letter’ from the upcoming album. Titilope Sonuga features on this , and with lines like…
“This is an open letter to the girl who wears her beauty like an unanswered question… the girl who clutched her jeans like falling sand… I remember that you would not stand because you had been conditioned to swim…”
… We really cannot imagine a better feature! Cop a listen below and let’s know what you think.
